The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) is the lead agency for fostering world-class scientific research and talent for a vibrant knowledge-based and innovation-driven Singapore. A*STAR oversees 14 biomedical sciences and physical sciences and engineering research institutes, and six consortia & centres, located in Biopolis and Fusionopolis as well as their immediate vicinity. The Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R pronounced as i-squared-r) is a member of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) family. Established in 2002, it aims to be the globally preferred source of innovations in `Interactive Secured Information, Content and Services Anytime Anywhere’ through research by passionate people dedicated to Singapore’s economic success.

On France's side
The French National Centre for Scientific Research is a government-funded research organisation, under the administrative authority of France's Ministry of Research. Leading researchers worked at one time or another in their careers in laboratories of the CNRS. With 17 Nobel laureates and 11 of the Fields Medal, the CNRS has a long tradition of excellence.
IPAL is with the Institute for Information Sciences and Technologies (INS2I) as a primary Institute and with the Institute for Engineering and Systems Sciences (INSIS) as a secondary one.

Our associate institutes
The Bioinformatics Institute (BII), which was founded by Dr. Gunaretnam Rajagopal in 2001, is an institute of Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), based at Biopolis Matrix. The institute aims at developing and deploying analytical tools and computational techniques for biological research and through close collaborations with experimental and clinical groups within and outside Singapore.
