IPAL in a few words

IPAL Scientific Objectives

IPAL is a French-Singaporean joint research laboratory, based in Singapore and founded in 1998. In 2007, IPAL became a UMI CNRS lab, the highest scientific ranking among CNRS labs overseas.

Today, IPAL partners (CNRS, I2R, NUS, UJF, IMT, and UPMC) are renewing their agreement for 4 years, from January 2015 to December 2018, with a focus on Inclusive Smart Cities and Digital Health, in line with the Smart Nation initiative launched in Singapore. Our research focuses on Digital health and Inclusive smart spaces to enhance the quality of life of ageing people, in close collaboration with Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

While the main motivation and focus of our project lies in building an integrated knowledge exchange framework, the software infrastructure aims at solving the general problem of linking big data analytics with the internet of services in a smart city context. To provide useful services to urban stakeholders, it is crucial to enhance the data gathered from various sources, and derive value and insightful knowledge from it.

IPAL Supporting Institutes

IPAL is co-organizing the BioImage Informatics Conference 2016 that will take place in Singapore (Biopolis), 10-12 October. Registration is now open, paper submission until 15 June.

The 14th International Conference on Smart homes, Assistive Technologies, Robotics and Health telematics will be hosted by Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. Original founder of ICOST and co-organiser of the 13th edition in Geneva last year, IPAL will carry on its active role in the organisation of the 14th edition, which will keep the same focus on Inclusive Smart Cities and Digital Health.

We have been successful with our H2020 City4Age bid, an EU-supported research & innovation project that aims at developing elderly-friendly city services for active and healthy ageing.
